During your summer holiday, you can explore a historic castle, a healing spring, and captivating nature nearby. We’ve summarised a few highlights below:
Berneck Castle: a mediaeval jewel high above the Kaunertal valley
Just a ten-minute drive from the Hotel Post Prutz, the Gothic Berneck Castle, perched at 1,076 metres above sea level, offers a stunning glimpse into the past. Also known as Bernegg, this residential castle is considered the most beautiful of its kind in Tyrol. First documented in 1225, the once-dilapidated building was thoughtfully restored in the 1970s. Its yellow tuff door, window frames, and late Gothic frescoes in the St Bartholomew chapel are particularly noteworthy. Guided tours are available to get the most out of your visit.
The Kaunergrat Nature Park House: nature and architecture in harmony
About a 20-minute drive from the Hotel Post in Prutz, the Kaunergrat Nature Park House has seamlessly blended nature and architecture since 2007. Visitors can explore Tyrol’s diverse flora and fauna on the numerous nearby trails or enjoy local specialities on the restaurant’s sun terrace. The “3000 m VERTIKAL” multimedia exhibition provides fascinating insights into the region’s natural wonders.
The Sauerbrunn spring: a short walk to promote health
The historic Sauerbrunn spring is just a few minutes’ walk from the Hotel Post in Prutz. Acclaimed for its healing properties since 1212, this mineral-rich spring, containing iron, calcium, magnesium, and sulphur, was first tapped around 1750. It attracts many visitors for its reputed benefits in alleviating kidney and liver complaints, gastrointestinal problems, and high blood pressure. A visit to the spring is a refreshing choice for a relaxing evening stroll.
